Inductively-Coupled Plasma Mass-Spectrometry (ICP-MS)

ProVerde provides heavy metal and elemental analysis using an Inductively-Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry technique (ICP-MS). ICP-MS uses a plasma torch to excite metal atoms to a high energy state. The excited metal atoms are separated by magnets according to the weight of each different type of atom. When the elements are separated they can be quantified with our mass spectrometry detector. ICP-MS is compared to other analytical techniques which also measure elemental compositions such as Flame Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (FAA) and Total X-ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy (TXRF). ICP-MS is more sensitive than these other methods and better suited to analyze elements such as heavy metals because it can measure values at or below the very low regulatory limits being proposed by legislatures. ProVerde’s ICP-MS service is useful to analyze toxic and harmful elements like mercury, lead, cadmium, and arsenic - but also to analyze elements found in nutrients such as magnesium, potassium, sulfur, phosphorus, and calcium to determine nutrient uptake. ProVerde is able to analyze elemental compositions in different materials including, but not limited to, cannabis flower, concentrates, oils, drinking water, pharmaceuticals, and environmental media.
